Furry Friends
Life without furry creatures in our house just wouldn’t be the same. Together we have had 4 different animals, two cats and two dogs.
Each of our animals has been a rescue. With so many animals that need adopting, finding our fur-ever friends was easy. I’ll go into the character of each as we travel through our time together. But the first of our furry buddies, was Mischa.
She was mine before Lew and I met, but was from a rescue home in Reading, PA. The day I met her, I sat on the floor and let all the kittens come to me. There must have been at least 30 in the home, all up for adoption. This little tortoise (torti) calico jumped in my lap and I knew we were destined….
She was incredibly lovey and loved the outdoors. Although Mischa was only an indoor cat, being outside for a walk around the house brought her joy.
Enter Lew!
Mischa with full on claws enjoyed the edge of the mattress, so Lew began to train her. This was a new experience for me, the training not Lew. Have you ever seen a cat take treats out of someone’s mouth. Neither had I. Lew took the cat treats and trained her to use her scratching post. This of course was an ongoing exercise, as she was ….. a cat!!! Need I say more. Truly a mind of her own.
We were fortunate to have her for 14 years and through all of the mid-night puking sessions (it is ALWAYS 3:00 am. why is that?) and getting her well several times… she was the best. She endured the arrival of Filene (kitten #two) as well as being “introduced” to two dogs in her life. HA! can you say QUEEN! Of course you can.
This cat moved with us from Pennsylvania, to New Hampshire, to Vermont, to Colorado to two places and then back to Vermont also to two places. She was quite the world traveler and loved every minute of it. well, until the very last few. . . . . :)
She truly was and she is missed.
For our next adventure with furry friends, you’ll meet Filene.
