Travel in Place
It is a day for adventure. The weather is fabulous, and after working way more hours than we wanted during the week, it made us CRAVE getting out in the sunshine and away from home. Sans a vacation coming anytime soon, we took advantage of a great weekend to check out some local spots.
New England offers so many charming towns, and back roads to explore, all within a short hour’s drive.
So we began with two locations in opposite directions on different occasions that took us to a small town in New Hampshire, Intervale, and a small college town in Vermont.
Our first stop south to the town of Middlebury Vermont. This charming town, home to Middlebury College. “mini history lesson here” Robert Frost spent 40 years during the summer and fall teaching at Bread Loaf School of English. Now this town has many small shops, restaurants, breweries and bookstores to check out.
A spring day in Vermont although sunny was windy, but we spent a few hours walking along the main street, wandering in and out of shops. The shops are quaint and filled with gifts at Sweet Cecily, books at the Vermont Book Shop, & Otter Creek Used Books, Vermont classic purchases (maple candy) and Danforth Pewter. Even as a Vermonter, these places never get old. Small and inviting with staff that makes you feel like you are part of the community. We finished off this day with lunch at Two Brothers Tavern. All I can say is DELICIOUS!
The next “Travel in Place”, we’ll visit the our trip to Intervale, New Hampshire.
Our next big trip is not until July. In the meantime, there will be the spontaneous camping trips and trail adventures throughout the state.
