New England Rendez-vous
Believe it or not we made it to the outdoors for more than one day.
The 4 day weekend was certainly not enough, but it was great to explore New Hampshire and Maine. Some of this exploration was off road, and some was searching for beauty. This is a pretty easy task when in the northeast. The summers here in New England always feel so short in comparison to the winter months. It is all pretty in its own way. But traveling through any of the states during the summer is spectacular.
The early part of July we took 4 days with our friends to explore territory we had not previously traveled. We found little towns like Lincoln , NH that are so cute and already on the list to return. Just passing through on our way to the campground (Big Rock Campground) gave us a little taste of what the area has to offer. Big Rock being our first campsite for the trip was really nice. It is right off the Kancamagus highway, which makes it a superb place after an evening’s drive. Our site was relatively secluded even with the highway close by it was a quiet and beautiful night.
With Maine being the “main” focus… so not funny… we were still looking forward to seeing all the places between New Hampshire and the coast of Maine. Lew did have one requirement. He needed to have a Lobster roll. You can just imagine searching for the best place to stop for lobster rolls in Maine. Right around lunch time we just happened to pass “the Fishermans Inn Restaurant” in Winter harbor . The weather was magical and the lobster rolls were just EXACTLY what the doctor ordered. We sat outside and let the dogs rest in the shade, while we feasted on the best lobster rolls EVER!!!
Post lunch we skirted around the coast to set our feet in the cold Atlantic water, while searching for shells, and heart shaped stones. The dogs bounced up and down the rocky beach enjoying breeze and sunshine. The evening stay was in Acadia National Park. Fireworks, fire in the mini–Solo Stove, fire pit and hanging around in the hammock…. what’s not to like about campsite enjoyment.
